Actor Rahul Dev, who recently starred in the Disney+ Hotstar film Gaslight alongside Sara Ali Khan, Chitrangda Singh, and Vikrant Massey, spoke about the success of films from the south Indian film industries despite their exaggerated action scenes and unrealistic portrayals.
In a recent interview, Rahul expressed his belief that creativity can be expressed in any form and that films from the south are performing well because of their captivating style of storytelling and larger-than-life characters.
While acknowledging that Bollywood has not fully utilized his potential, Rahul explained that south Indian films follow a similar template to films from the 70s and 80s, with over-the-top fight sequences and exaggerated characters.
However, he emphasized that the way the story is expressed and perceived by the audience is what matters most. He also stated that commercial films are not inherently bad, as they cater to a specific audience.
Rahul, who has worked in films like Champion, Omkara, Torbaaz, and Raat Baaki Hai, among others, recently starred in the Kannada film Kabzaa alongside Kiccha Sudeep, Upendra, and Shriya Saran, which was released last month.
As an actor, Rahul believes that the current skill format of an actor is more natural, particularly in the OTT space, and hopes to receive more challenging roles that allow him to showcase his talents.
