Should Nagarjuna Pay Rs 4000 Cr To Government?

Should Nagarjuna Pay Rs 4000 Cr To Government?

Nagarjuna's 'N Convention' was demolished on the grounds of land encroachment in the Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zone of a lake.

A large section of people, including some celebrities, are welcoming this action.

But what’s next? If it was government land and a private person earned crores of rupees by doing business on it for about 12 years, shouldn't the government penalize him?

"There is an unconfirmed estimate by some news channels that he might have earned close to Rs 4000 crore from this business since its inception. Whatever be the amount, the law should be applied on him to pay that money back to the government, which can then be disbursed for people's welfare and city development," said an NRI who welcomes the demolition but is not satisfied if this is the end of the story.

On the other hand, Nagarjuna has been firmly stating that the court has already ruled that not even a single inch has been encroached upon government property or FTL.

He also says that it is patta land. If it is indeed patta land, then the government should compensate for the loss.

We have to see what the court says in the end.

Should the government pay compensation to Nagarjuna, or should Nagarjuna himself pay the government a penalty for earning from government land for so many years?

On the other hand, there are a number of farmhouses and independent residential buildings that are being targeted by the authorities.

Since no commercial activity took place there, they may not be subject to the demand of paying a penalty.

But if they are patta lands and the government wants them as part of lake protection, they may have to be compensated.
