A big fight has started between Telangana film theatre owners/exhibitors and the producers. The exhibitors are demanding with an ultimatum to the producers to treat all the single screens on par with the multiplexes.
It is known that the agreement between the multiplexes and the producers has been the percentage system. But when it comes to the single screens it has been the rental system.
With this, the single screen exhibitors cannot play well in the system with dynamic decisions of which film has to be played and which has to be removed.
The income of single screens especially with respect to the parking and canteen have been affecting a lot due to this. So, the first demand is to bring in percentage system for single screens as well.
Another demand in the ultimatum is that, all the big and small movie releases must have a 6 and 4 week gap respectively to hit the OTTs.
To discuss on this issue a meeting was held at Ramanaidu Studios this evening in the presence of Suresh Babu Daggubati, Asian Cinemas' Sunil. DVV Danayya, Abhishek Nama, Mythri Ravi and Naveen, BVSN Prasad and others.
It is known that several films are releasing in the month of February and March. Without the conclusion of this issue, there will be a bigger problem for many new releases.
The ultimatum states that the theatres will be shut down from March 1st if these demands are not accepted by the producers. Let us wish there wouldn't be no second lockdown of film theatres in Telangana state.
In this entire scenario it is not yet clear on which side Daggubati Suresh and Asian Sunil are standing. Because, they are producers as well as exhibitors with several theatres in hand.
