Corona pandemic has been reshuffling many businesses. One of the most talked ones is about the resistance of theatre owners (especially multiplexes) to the direct OTT releases.
To this many have been reacting in many ways but one post with a knockout sarcasm is going viral now.
Darshan Kuldeep, a Karnataka based software professional, on his facebook wall posted:
"Dear Inox and PVR, Stop cribbing over films releasing on OTT platforms. Had you thought or done anything, in the same line for single screen owners before launching multiplexes decades ago? I think history is repeating itself.. BTW, Why do you need movies now to keep running your business? when small and indie filmmakers ran door to door for a theatrical release, wasn't it you who showed middle finger ? You guys are pro now in selling 350 Rs popcorn, 150 Rs Samosa and 100 Rs water bottle, so start grocery business and be #atmanirbhar!"
It is known that change is inevitable. Many film labs were closed with digital revolution in cinema. Single theatres have been suffering a dent with multiplexes. Similarly big screens may eat a blow with OTTs.
But on contrary a few are opining, "Many said that theatres will be closed when TV came to homes. But that didnt happen. Again the same topic has seen light when VCDs and DVDs have come. Even then the theatres never suffered. Similarly OTT cannot kill theatres".
So only the time has to see what will happen to the theatres.
