Ted Sarandos, Co-CEO of Netflix, recently shared that the Indian films 'RRR' and 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' were the subject of much discussion in Los Angeles during the awards season.
According to him, these two movies received a lot of attention and were watched by many people, despite the vast number of films available to watch on the voting site.
Sarandos further added that 'RRR', in particular, had caught the attention of many people, and for many, it may have been their first-ever Indian film.
In his words he said- "'RRR', for many people that I know, may have been the first Indian movie they've ever seen."
Well, if they have got exposed to commercial Indian cinema only with RRR and getting this much excitement, then what would happen to them if they watch 'Bahubali Series'? Many Indians have been discussing this followed by Sarandos' statement.
The mention of 'RRR' and 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' in Los Angeles during the awards season is significant because it highlights the growing global recognition and interest in Indian cinema.
With the increase in international platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and others, Indian filmmakers have a greater opportunity to showcase their talent and gain recognition on a global scale.
We have to see if the days come to see Indian content getting global recognition even on OTTs on par with that of Korean and Spanish films.
