RGV: Neither Afraid, Nor Playing With Loopholes

The arrest drama surrounding Ram Gopal Varma has been making waves in both mainstream and social media today.

RGV, known for his penchant for staying in the limelight—whether for good or bad reasons—appears to be relishing the entire situation.

Those familiar with his personality firmly believe that he is enjoying the buzz, while others, unaware of his mindset, assume he is scared and in hiding.

Several questions are being raised, and we sought insights from a senior advocate and a film producer at the Telangana High Court to address these queries.

Is RGV hiding out of fear or playing with legal loopholes?

When asked about this, a film producer explained, “When a parent plays hide-and-seek with their kids and pretends to be afraid of being caught, it’s done in fun, not fear. Similarly, RGV is engaging with the system in a playful manner. Through this process, his advocate is educating people about the law using the media.”

Why did RGV switch off his phone if he is not afraid?

Another widely debated question is why RGV turned off his phone.

The advocate responded, “If you are busy with work and want to avoid distractions, you switch off your phone. RGV is reportedly engrossed in some creative projects and chose to turn off his phone as he was inundated with calls from friends seeking updates. It’s that simple. He’s not concerned about the situation because he understands the law better than most.”

Then why is RGV in hiding?

The advocate clarified, “As an accused, he has every right to remain in hiding until he secures anticipatory bail. He is merely exercising this right with the advise of his council.”

Does RGV's alleged crime hold value in court?

The advocate dismissed the validity of the allegations, stating, “Not at all. In such cases, only the victims can file a complaint, not random individuals on behalf of victims. Similar cases have been dismissed at both High Court and Supreme Court levels. This so-called case against RGV is more of a TV drama than a legitimate legal matter.”

How was CBN arrested while RGV remains free?

The disparity between the swift arrest of CBN and RGV’s situation has also sparked debate.

The advocate explained, “CBN was arrested in Nandyal by the AP Police in a government case. RGV, however, is involved in a private social media-related case and is currently in a neighboring state, Telangana. Legally, the AP Police must go through the Jubilee Hills Police and the Magistrate of his jurisdiction to proceed. This procedural difference makes RGV’s arrest more complex than that of CBN. Ironically, it was easier to arrest a powerful figure like CBN due to the nature and location of the case, when compared to that of RGV.”

In conclusion, an advocate says, "RGV is neither playing with loopholes in the system nor is he afraid. He is beleiving in and simply following the legal advice and acting accordingly."
