Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma recently revealed that Amitabh Bachchan wasn’t his first choice for the lead role in Sarkar (2005).
Initially, Varma had planned a film titled Nayak, featuring Naseeruddin Shah and Sanjay Dutt as a father-son duo.
However, following Sanjay Dutt’s arrest in connection with the 1993 Bombay bomb blasts, the project was shelved.
Varma later reworked the concept and made Sarkar with Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan.
The film turned out to be a sleeper hit and was followed by a sequel, Sarkar Raj (2008).
