Punjab Elections: Talk About 'Emergency'

The release of 'Emergency', a political biographical film starring Kangana Ranaut as Indira Gandhi, has sparked discussions.

Despite being a BJP MP, her recent films have underperformed, and she had high hopes for Emergency.

However, her affiliation with BJP imposes limitations, and the party allegedly cautioned her against commenting on sensitive topics like the farmers’ protests.

Tensions between the BJP-led government and Khalistani sympathizers, alongside strained Indo-Canadian relations, also contribute to hesitation around the film's release.

Additionally, Sikh leaders and Punjab-based groups have expressed concerns over potential negative portrayals in the film. They are not sure how Sikhs are projected in the film.

It is known that Election Commission on Monday rescheduled the Assembly bye-elections in four constituencies in Punjab by a week, from November 13 to 20.

While 'Emergency' received CBFC clearance, questions linger over whether its content could invite backlash from the Sikh community or even harm BJP’s political standing in Punjab which is in second position now after AAP.

With all this, 'Emergency' is getting delayed leaving audiences wondering about the actual date of release.
