Producer Ekta Kapoor has recently shown her support for actor Akshay Kumar while criticizing the insensitive tabloid culture on her Instagram Stories.
Although not naming anyone, Ekta praised Akshay as the most reliable and dependable actor to work with and condemned the depressing culture of bringing someone down to highlight their lows. She also added the hashtag #insensitive to her statement.
Ekta's praise for Akshay came after the release of his latest film Selfiee, directed by Raj Mehta, which also stars Emraan Hashmi, Nushrratt Bharuccha, and Diana Penty.
However, the film's first-day figures were lower than expected, as reported by film trade analyst Taran Adarsh on Twitter.
He wrote, “#Selfiee at national chains… *Day 1* biz…#PVR: 64 lacs #INOX: 43 lacs #Cinepolis: 23 lacs Total: ₹ 1.30 cr Nett BOC. Shockingly low numbers." He also shared first day, national chains figures for other major releases of the year so far including Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan and Kartik Aaryan's Shehzada. “2023 releases… national chains only - *Day 1* biz… #Pathaan: ₹ 27.08 cr #Shehzada: ₹ 2.92 cr Nett BOC,” he tweeted.
Ekta's post also came a day after actor Kangana Ranaut criticized Selfiee, co-produced by filmmaker Karan Johar, and compared it to her last film Dhaakad (2022).
Selfiee is an official Hindi remake of the 2019 Malayalam film Driving License, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu.
It is produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Production, Magic Frames, Prithviraj Productions, Cape of Good Films, and Star Studios, with Akshay playing a superstar and Emraan Hashmi portraying a cop.
