Director Srikanth Addala and producer Mirayala Ravinder Reddy, who had previously delivered two successful films, had high hopes for their latest project "Peddha Kapu."
The teaser generated excitement, and the trailer further heightened expectations. However, the burning question remained: why did the film not have a strong opening?
It is common for people to base their anticipation on factors such as the teaser, trailer, the director's track record, and the reputation of the production company.
So why did things not go as anticipated?
The answer lies in the title of the movie, "Peddha Kapu." People immediately associated the title with caste, despite the director's assurances that it had no such connotation and was applicable to all castes.
Moreover, ongoing caste conflicts in Andhra Pradesh, involving Kamma, Reddy, and Kapu communities, further complicated matters.
Releasing a film with the title "Peddha Kapu" during such a sensitive time was a wrong move. Titles like "Reddy," "Chowdhary," or "Naidu" tend to attract more viewers, whereas it is proven that a title like "Kapu" fails to generate as much interest.
Looking at the openings, it appears that even those from the Kapu community may not have supported the film. This kind of association is short-lived.
Ultimately, whether a movie is successful or not depends on its quality. But the openings always depend on the pull factor of the film.
Unfortunately, despite the title "Peddha Kapu," the movie failed to garner any impressive opening.
