The craze for Malayali movie remakes continues in Telugu, even in the OTT era!
For years, there has been talk about remaking Fahadh Faasil’s hit film Aavesham with Balakrishna in the lead. However, despite the buzz, Telugu filmmakers seem uninterested in buying the rights to the film.
There's also been speculation that Ravi Teja acquired the rights, but the question remains- why remake Aavesham now?
If the remake happens, it will be no different from the Kannada industry, which banned dubbed films but made remakes of Telugu, Tamil and Hindi films. Irony is that the Telugu filmmakers continue to pursue remakes, despite the availability of OTT platforms.
The lack of fresh stories and reluctance to take risks with new roles has led to remakes like Ayyappanum Koshiyum and Lucifer, but they too fail to deliver properly.
Aavesham is overrated, with Fahadh's performance being the highlight. The story resonates with Malayali youth, but it won’t connect the same way with Telugu audiences. Despite this, Tollywood’s obsession with remakes persists.
