Except for one or two movies like Pushpa 2 or Kalki 2898 AD, most Telugu films have failed to generate significant revenue from pan-Indian markets lately.
Stars who lack a consistent market in Telugu states, along with mid-range actors like Nani and Naga Chaitanya, are aggressively promoting their films across multiple languages.
However, not a single film from a mid-range hero has added substantial earnings from Tamil, Malayalam, or Hindi markets in recent years.
Nani toured across India to promote his recent films, including Hi Nanna and Saripodhaa Sanivaaram, but the collections from the Hindi version were almost zero.
Similarly, despite Kiran Abbavaram promoting Ka in Malayalam, the film failed to earn anything from that market.
Naga Chaitanya’s latest film, Thandel, is showing a similar trend.
While the Telugu version grossed a massive amount in the Telugu states and overseas, the collections from the Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi versions couldn’t even cover the flight expenses for the actors during promotions.
It’s high time mid-range and young stars rethink their “Pan-India” strategy and reserve large-scale multi-language releases for films with universal appeal.
