Paid Just Rs 10 for Her First Role, She Became a Legend

Once hailed by legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray as “the most beautiful face in Indian cinema,” Jaya Prada remains a name etched in the hearts of millions.

She reigned supreme as a leading lady in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi films during the 1970s and 1980s, celebrated for her mesmerizing screen presence, graceful dance, and exceptional acting prowess.

To this day, she is considered one of the most cherished actresses in the history of Indian cinema.

Jaya Prada began her journey in the film industry at the age of just fourteen, making her debut with a three-minute dance sequence in the Telugu film Bhoomi Kosam — for which she was paid a modest ₹10.

From that humble beginning, she quickly became an inseparable part of Telugu cinema, with every film she touched turning into box-office gold.

Her on-screen pairing with N.T. Rama Rao became legendary, winning the hearts of Telugu audiences everywhere.

She soon expanded her cinematic reach to Kannada cinema, starring opposite Dr. Rajkumar in a string of successful films.

Her transition to Hindi cinema was equally impactful, where she became a sought-after leading lady and starred alongside icons like Amitabh Bachchan, Jeetendra, Kamal Haasan, and Rajinikanth, firmly establishing herself as a pan-Indian star.

By the mid-1990s, Jaya Prada gradually stepped away from the silver screen and turned her attention to politics.

She began her political journey with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), later joining the Samajwadi Party, followed by the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD).

Since 2019, she has been associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Over the years, she has served as a Member of Parliament in both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha.

From a teenage dancer in regional cinema to a national icon in both film and politics, Jaya Prada's journey is nothing short of extraordinary — a true testament to talent, resilience, and timeless appeal.
