As the entire India, and not just Telugu film industry, is celebrating the winning of prestigious Oscar award by director S S Rajamouli and team for its exuberant “Naatu-Naatu” song composed by M M Keeravani and penned by Chandrabose, political parties in Telangana saw an opportunity to gain some mileage out of it.
The ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi, while complimenting the team RRR for winning the prestigious award, recalled how the Bharatiya Janata Party sought to play communal politics over the film.
“During the release of the film RRR, BJP state president Bandi Sanjay and others created a ruckus over the film and sought to trigger communal passions for the simple reason that Junior NTR, who played the role of Komuram Bheem, wore a Muslim cap in the film,” BRS social media in-charge Y Satish Reddy said.
He even recalled that the BJP leaders threatened to set fire to the film theatres, if RRR was released.
“Had the government succumbed to their threats and stopped the release of RRR, the film would not have got Oscar now,” he pointed out.
Reddy found fault with the BJP leaders for tweeting complimenting the team for winning Oscar now.
“This shows their double standards. It was unfortunate that the BJP government at the Centre had not nominated RRR to Oscars officially, but had done a Gujarati film “Chello Show.” What more evidence one would require to show about the discriminating attitude of the BJP,” he asked.
BRS working president and minister K T Rama Rao also took pot shots at the BJP leaders on the same issue.
“Not before long, the SAME Bigot will tell you the Award was given only because of Modi,” he said.
Digital director of the Telangana government Konatham Dileep Reddy also took a dig at the BJP saying: “This is the right time to remember what kind of venom bigots like @bandisanjay_bjp spewed on this movie. Let’s reject such hatemongers!”.
