Senior journalist of popular Telugu television channel Rehana Begum was on Thursday selected as Commissioner of Right to Information in Andhra Pradesh, according to sources.
The selection committee headed by chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy which met at the state secretariat in the afternoon selected three RTI commissioners as per the directions of the state high court.
Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu, who is also part of the selection committee, stayed away from the meeting on the ground that he had prior commitments.
The two other commissioners selected by the committee are: Dr Allareddy Udayabhaskar Reddy, a dental surgeon and general secretary of the YSR Congress party doctors’ wing and popular sportsperson Chavali Suneel.
Rehana, who has been heading the NTV bureau in Andhra Pradesh, is considered to be very close to YSRCP leadership and has always been seen in the close corridors of Tadepalli. Her loyalty to the party has finally paid off, sources said.
