Given the fact that ‘Uppena’ features newcomers, the direct-digital release proposal makes sense but the makers are not evincing interest.
Medium-range and small-budgeted films like “Maha Maheswara Ugra Roopsya”, and “Bhanumathi and Ramakrishna” had skipped theatrical release after releasing that the theaters would not resume their operations anytime soon.
Films like “Nishabdham”, “Orey Bujjigaa” and “Red” are rethinking about the theatrical plans.
But the makers of “Uppena” have made it clear that they would wait until the normalcy is restored and theaters opened.
The film was produced with more than Rs 20 crores even though it is the debut vehicle for Sai Dharam Tej’s brother Vaishnav Tej and Kannada girl Kriti Shetty.
The film boasts rich production values, top-range technicians, which increased the budget. No streaming app would pay such amount to a film that features newcomers.
Hence, “Uppena” has no option but to wait for the re-opening of the cinema halls.
