No one can predict anything. When Gadar 2 was announced and its first teaser was released, the critics slammed it, calling it a wasteful effort with an old hero and a middle-aged heroine. But what's happening now?
The film has secured its place at the top in the history of Bollywood, breaking many records.
Sunny Deol is now fully geared up to create many more sequels of his previous blockbuster hits, though not every sequel can potentially become a Gadar 2.
Another surprising thing is that many critics in the Bollywood circuit rated the film at 1 and 1.5 out of 5, while they showered praise on OMG 2 starring Akshay Kumar in a much bigger way. Finally, everybody is now awestruck by the phenomenal success of the film.
In some cities, the theaters and showtimes were not sufficient to accommodate the crowds. Although extra screens and shows were allocated instantly, many people were left without finding a ticket.
On Independence Day, due to the holiday, the film broke the records of even Bahubali 2, making a whopping 55 crore collection on a Tuesday.
The first Tuesday collection after Gadar 2 that comes close is Bahubali 2, which rounded up to Rs 29.78 crore. In simple terms, Bahubali 2 is now looking like a dwarf in comparison to Gadar 2.
Made on a modest budget of Rs 80 crore, including the remunerations of the stars, the film earned almost Rs 300 crore in the first five to six days of its release.
The film shows no signs of stopping and continues to make huge collections. Considering the momentum it is gaining, it remains to be seen which other records the film is going to break.
Gadar 2 has now joined the ranks of Kashmir Files and Kantara in terms of unexpected super blockbusters made on humble budgets.
