Following Saif Ali Khan's knife attack and subsequent hospitalization, the swift approval of a Rs 25 lakh cashless medical claim by insurance provider Niva Bupa has sparked controversy.
The Association of Medical Consultants (AMC), representing over 14,000 medical professionals, has written to the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), questioning alleged "preferential treatment" for celebrities.
AMC criticized the disparity in insurance claim processing, arguing that celebrities and high-profile individuals often receive favorable terms, while ordinary policyholders face insufficient coverage and low reimbursement rates.
The organization called for transparency in determining claim approvals and cashless treatment limits, emphasizing that insurance should safeguard everyone equally, irrespective of social status.
They urged IRDAI to investigate the matter and establish guidelines to prevent discriminatory practices.
Mr. Khan, hospitalized after being stabbed during a robbery attempt, underwent surgery for multiple injuries, including a spine wound narrowly missing his spinal cord.
He was discharged recently and advised bed rest.
