Matka Ends With A High Moment: Varun Tej

Matka Ends With A High Moment: Varun Tej

Varun Tej has high hopes on his upcoming flick Matka. Directed by Karuna Kumar on Vyra Entertainments and SRT Entertainments, the movie is due for release on the 14th of this month.

The actor in exclusive interview with us affirmed that the character he played in Matka was most challenging for him.

"We ensured that the costumes, hairstyles, and overall fashion were authentic to the 60s, 70s, and 80s, as the story spans three decades and follows the incredible journey of a man named Vasu.

To portray a younger version of Vasu, I became lean, but later gained weight to achieve a more mature look for the older phase. We intentionally avoided heavy prosthetics to maintain authenticity, as Vasu's character is around 50 years old. Prosthetics would have been used if he were in his 90s."

Varun Tej clarifies that the movie is not a biopic, but the story was inspired by some real incidents.

"If Vasu were a real person, this would be his biopic. The character of Ratan Khtri, who pioneered the Matka business, is fascinating. I was amazed at how he managed to send numbers across the country without a proper communication system – it felt like a truly unique aspect of the story. Interestingly, during filming, Matka centers were still operating in areas like Kurnool, and the game had a significant impact on India's economy in the 70s, which I found intriguing."

The actor avows that the climax will give a great satisfaction to the audience. "We made sure to give the film a strong, satisfying ending, with a high moment."

Varun Tej makes it clear that he won't be working under the production of his father Nagababu.

"My dad and I decided not to collaborate on films. We wouldn't have associated, even though Orange would be a hit. But I'd definitely be open to working on projects under my sister's production banner, as she has great knowledge in the production. She is currently looking for the perfect script."

Varun Tej also discussed various topics such as fan culture, the impact of social media, Pawan Kalyan, and more. Watch the full video for all the insights.
