Mani Ratnam's much-anticipated film, Ponniyin Selvan 2, has finally been released worldwide. This project has been a long-gestating dream for the director and features an ensemble cast including Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, and many others in the lead.
However, the director has made it clear in a recent interview that he does not want any comparisons made between his film and the Baahubali series, despite both being big-budget, epic period films.
While Mani Ratnam expressed admiration for the Baahubali films in a promotional interview conducted ahead of the release of the second installment, he emphasized that Ponniyin Selvan is a different project altogether.
According to him, the characters in Ponniyin Selvan are based on real historical figures, and he aimed to portray them as realistically as possible.
He also stated that he wanted the war sequences to be different from those in Baahubali, as he preferred to be "inside the war" rather than showing something grandiose from the outside.
Mani Ratnam's vision for Ponniyin Selvan sets it apart from the Baahubali series and reflects his mastery of dramatic storytelling and shooting techniques.
This project is undoubtedly his most ambitious to date and showcases his unique approach to the period epic genre.
