Komala, a Telangana folk singer is hurt. She alleges that a gross injustice is committed by the National Award winning film writer Suddala Ashok Teja and the “Love Story” film team.
She says that Suddala plagiarized a song from her and used it for his profession without giving any due credit to her. This is all about the song “Saranga Dariya..” that was released a few days back.
Komala says, “I learned this from my grandmother in my childhood and sung many times. When I sang in Re laRe Rela, Suddala Ashok Teja was the guest. He liked it and silently lifted. He says now that it is a people’s song and nobody can own it. Will he agree if the song he released is lifted and used in other film? Wouldn’t there be any copyright issue?”
Singer Komala wept in another TV channel interview as well sharing her grievance.
On the other hand, sources say that the “Love Story” team is enjoying this entire controversy as it is giving free publicity.
Some comments are saying that Komala should be given credit and some remuneration for bringing out this folk song in his voice, for the first time.
On the other hand Andhra-Telangana politics are also seeing light in the netizens’ comments. They say that justice should be done to Komala as she hails from Telangana.
Some others are saying that Mangli, who sang for the film version, belongs to Andhra Pradesh and not Telangana and so this can be understood as Andhra people’s tyranny on Telangana artistes. We have to see where this ends.
