The arrest of Allu Arjun by the Hyderabad police has sparked strong reactions from opposition party leaders across both Telugu states.
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K. T. Rama Rao criticized the Revanth Reddy-led government for the actor's arrest.
“The arrest of National Award-winning star Allu Arjun is the pinnacle of insecurity by the ruling government! I deeply sympathize with the victims of the stampede, but who truly failed here? Treating @alluarjun Garu like a common criminal is unwarranted, especially when he isn’t directly responsible,” KTR wrote in a post on X.
He further added, “There is always space for respect and dignified conduct. I strongly condemn the high-handed behavior of the government. By the same flawed logic, Revanth Reddy should be held accountable for the death of two innocent people in Hyderabad caused by fear psychosis created by Hydraa.”
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay also criticized the handling of the situation, stating the actor deserved better treatment.
In a post on X, Sanjay alleged that the national award-winning actor was "lifted straight from his bedroom" without even being given time to change, calling it a "disgraceful act of mismanagement and disrespect."
"A star of his stature, who has brought global recognition to Indian cinema, deserved better treatment," Sanjay remarked.
YSR Congress Party president and former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy also strongly condemned Allu Arjun's arrest.
He referred to the tragic death of a woman in the stampede-like situation at Sandhya Theatre during the screening of Pushpa 2: The Rule, highlighting that Allu Arjun had acted responsibly by expressing his grief and offering support to the victim's family during the difficult time.
“But blaming him for the stampede, filing criminal charges, or arresting him is neither fair nor acceptable, as he was not involved in the tragic event,” Jagan Mohan Reddy stated.
