When Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao made an announcement in New Delhi recently that there is going to be some sensational development in the country in the next two or three months, it led to a lot of speculations in the media.
National media has predicted that KCR might announce floating of an alternative political forum if not a front at the national level.
There was also speculation that he might announce floating of a separate Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi (BRS), along the lines of TRS at the state-level.
Some sections have not ruled out KCR dissolving the state assembly again and going for early elections again. Anything may be possible in KCR’s style of politics, say political observers.
Now, the latest talk within the TRS circles is that KCR would step down as the chief minister by Dasara and anoint his son K T Rama Rao as the chief minister.
Apparently, he has decided that it might not be possible for him to play a double role both in national and regional politics.
If one were to link this development to the floating of a new party BRS, one would assume that KCR would head the BRS and operate from Delhi, while leaving the TRS and Telangana state to his son KTR.
The statement of a Telangana minister that KCR would enter national politics by Dasara has lent credence to this speculation that he would move to Delhi after making KTR as his successor in power in Telangana.
Though there had been a talk about KTR being anointed as the chief minister has been there ever since the TRS won the assembly elections for the second successive time in 2018, but it has not happened.
In fact, at one stage, KCR himself declared that he would be the chief minister of Telangana for 20 years.
But with changed political scenario in the state and the BJP emerging as a big threat to the TRS, the chief minister decided to take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi directly, leaving the state to KTR.
If KTR can lead the TRS to victory in the next elections, his position will get consolidated for at least next one decade.
