There is a difference between the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and other political parties in the state: while all the parties have their own spokespersons who can represent their party views on any important issue, the TRS doesn’t have any leaders who can do the job.
Till recently, some TRS leaders used to address press conferences and attend television debates on behalf of the party on crucial issues.
But for the last few weeks, the TRS has not been sending anybody to the TV debates nor is anybody available to the media for giving party views.
A couple of months ago, TRS president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao told the party leaders not to attend any television debates or speak to the media on any issue.
Apparently, he has taken the decision in the wake of some leaders inadvertently speaking against the party line on important issues, causing embarrassment to the party.
As a result, the media has not been able to take the versions of the TRS leaders on any issue.
Except official statements from the TRS government, the stand of the party has not been known even on important developments like discussion between two Telugu states on Godavari water sharing etc.
Party sources said the TRS chief now wants to give proper training to select leaders on various issues and developments, government’s programmes and policies.
Only those who come out successfully in the training programmes would be appointed as party spokespersons.
“A panel of spokespersons would be prepared after the training and only those leaders who get the official spokesperson status would be allowed to address press conferences and participate in the debates. Most probably, the system would be in place by August ending,” party sources said.
