The much-awaited trailer of late actress and legendary politician Jayalalithaa's biopic titled Thalaivi is here.
Released on the occasion of the lead actress Kangana Ranaut’s birthday, the trailer is an overview of Jayalalithaa’s journey from starring in films to transitioning as one of the leading politicians in South India.
The trailer showcases Jayalalithaa’s life as she started out her career in the film industry and slowly made her way into politics with encouragement from her mentor MGR.
The trailer begins with voiceover of Karunanidhi who cautions MGR not to encourage and entertain a woman in politics.
Then, the glimpses of Jayalalithaa’s cinema life as a glamorous star are shown and the scene of the actress posing with MGR played by Arvind Swami shows the kind of rapport between the two.
While MGR welcomes Jayalalithaa to politics, Karunanidhi essayed by Samuthirakani is complaint is against it.
Jaya’s maiden speech at the Rajya Sabha was widely acclaimed for its clarity of diction and elegant prose. Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was also impressed along with other fellow Rajya Sabha members.
But, the major highlight is the recreation of infamous incident in Jayalalithaa’s life when she was physically assaulted and the loose end of her saree was pulled out during an assembly session after the demise of MGR.
The trailer ends on impressive note with Kangana as Jaya uttering, “Nannu ammagaa choosthe naa hrudayamlo meeku chotuntundi. Nannu kevalam oka adadanigaa choosthe…”
All the crucial incidents in Jayalalithaa’s life are captivatingly presented in the trailer which is vastly engaging.
It’s Kangana’s show all the way as she exceled in the role that is highly challenging since she needed to undergo physical transformations.
AL Vijay must be lauded as the trailer is pleasing to the core. Cinematography, music and production design are the other big assets, other than Vijayendra Prasad’s writing.
Produced jointly by Vishnu Vardhan Induri, Shailesh R Singh and Tirumal Reddy, Thalaivi is slated for release on April 23rd.
