Fans have expressed disappointment over reports that Christopher Nolan’s 2014 masterpiece Interstellar will not be re-released in IMAX due to the screens being reserved for Pushpa 2: The Rule for several weeks.
Many criticized the decision, calling it “dumb” and arguing that the Allu Arjun-starrer may not fully utilize the cinematic potential of the IMAX format. However, Janhvi Kapoor has come to the film’s defense.
Reacting to a post that criticized the decision with the caption, “India doesn’t deserve cinema,” Kapoor shared her thoughts, writing: "Pushpa 2 is also cinema. Why are we so obsessed with idolizing the West and running down things that come out of our own country, instantly disqualifying them from being considered as worthy? The same rooted representation and larger-than-life tone that other countries appreciate, we ourselves are embarrassed of."
While Kapoor’s support has sparked debate, fans and critics alike are questioning whether it’s possible to strike a balance between celebrating Indian blockbusters like Pushpa 2 and ensuring access to globally acclaimed films like Interstellar.
