Director Nag Ashwin is known for his media shy nature. In fact, he does not know how to speak in front of the media in a well-planned manner like Rajamouli or Trivikram. He simply makes good films.
After Evade Subrahmanyam, he quietly continued his work with Mahanati and scored hit. Even then, he did not come forward to interact with the media.
He remained silent even when he was the backbone of films like Jathi Ratnalu and Sita Ramam under his banner.
There were no boasting of his involvement, no hype; he just silently went behind the scenes, planning the promotion.
For more than three years, even while Kalki was being made, Nag Ashwin's voice was not heard. Apart from a single interview before the release, there was no interaction with the media. Even when he went to Mumbai and gave half a dozen interviews, he didnt show his extrovert nature.
Finally, he faced the Telugu media for attendance sake, sat for an hour, and then left.
But now, after the film collected a gross of Rs 1000 Cr, Nag Ashwin made a post on social media which became conrtoversial.
It is a bit surprising that Nag Ashwin made a post suggesting the film became a hit without bloodshed, obscenity, profanity or violence. The post was deleted immediately, as the backlash from netizens is observed.
It is needless to say that his post was aimed at Sundeep Vanga's "Animal" which scored a big hit with bloodshed, obscenity, profanity and violence; also faced criticism for the same from many Bollywood biggies as well.
"Nag Ashwin has no stand to comment about others' films even indirectly. Any director has the freedom to make films in his style and the censor board has got its role to play later. Nag Ashwin need not boast as if he stood as a role model to entire nation. This speaks about his childish behavior", said a senior film producer off the record.
"A thousand-crore success might be changing him. Success seems to have got into his head. If it is true, then he will doom", said another film personality.
Nag Ashwin immediately deleted the post hinting that he is not ready to handle the controversy.
