India BO Day 1: Ka, Lucky Baskhar and Amaran

India BO Day 1: Ka, Lucky Baskhar and Amaran

Diwali 2024 is shaping up to be a packed season, with numerous high-profile films competing at the box office.

The Tamil film industry has Amaran, Brother, and Bloody Beggar leading its holiday lineup, while the Telugu industry offers Lucky Baskhar (starring Mollywood superstar Dulquer Salmaan) and KA.

In Kannada cinema, Sandalwood’s big release is Bagheera, touted for a world-building approach similar to KGF. Meanwhile, Bollywood presents two major releases: Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.

KA Shows Promise with Strong Start

KA made a promising debut at the box office, grossing Rs 35 lakh from premiere shows. Thanks to favorable word of mouth, its advance booking pace picked up, with robust spot bookings on the release day. By the end of its first day, KA grossed Rs 3.40 crore, bringing its total with premieres to Rs 3.75 crore.

Dulquer Salmaan’s Lucky Baskhar Off to a Flying Start

Dulquer Salmaan’s thriller Lucky Baskhar, directed by Venky Atluri, has hit big, opening with over Rs 7 crore on day one. According to Box Office reports, the film collected Rs 7.50 crore on its first day, with an additional Rs 1 crore from preview shows, bringing its total to Rs 8.50 crore in India.

Amaran’s Diwali Success

Sacnilk reports that Amaran earned ₹21.25 crore net domestically on Friday, with an especially strong showing in Tamil Nadu. In its home state, the film grossed ₹15 crore, trailing only Vijay’s GOAT and Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan for the year.

Amaran has even surpassed Kamal Haasan's Indian 2, which earned ₹13 crore gross on its opening day in Tamil Nadu.

Despite Diwali not being the biggest weekend for Tamil and Telugu cinema, Amaran's impressive numbers reflect strong audience acceptance.

With word of mouth continuing to build, the film is expected to perform well through the weekend. Overseas figures are anticipated soon and may elevate the film’s total further.

If current trends continue, Amaran could cross ₹100 crore gross in its first week—or potentially even within the weekend.
