I Can't Do Experiments With Chiranjeevi: Bobby

Director Bobby delivered a massive hit with Waltair Veerayya which is turning out to be the Sankranti winner.

The director in his exclusive interview with us says he is happier with the response from mega fans than the box office collections.

“Chiranjeevi’s fans are thanking me for showing him in an entertaining character. It’s a special moment for me.”

Bobby affirms he wishes to see Chiranjeevi in perfect commercial potboilers than in serious and experimental movies.

“I can’t do experimental movies with Chiranjeevi. I may watch out-of-the-box movies, but I strongly feel that commercial movies will have repeat value and fans too wish to see Chiranjeevi in hilarious roles, rather than in serious roles.”

He further says, “Even if you make an experimental movie with Chiranjeevi, you need to make sure to engage the audience full-time. There should be a strong element to hook them. We shouldn’t do experiments with the producer’s money.”

As earlier revealed by Bobby, the character played by Ravi Teja initially had limited screen space. “When I first wrote the story, Chiranjeevi will have his own brother and there were hardly a few scenes between them.

During the lockdown, when I was working on the script, I changed the character from own brother to step-brother. I thought Ravi Teja would bring that spark to the character.”

Bobby informs us he first told his idea of casting Ravi Teja for the character to Koratala Siva, much before he revealed the same to Chiranjeevi.

“Koratala Siva was making Acharya with Chiranjeevi then. When I told him about Ravi Teja’s character, he called it a brilliant idea. Then, after two months, after completing the script work, I discussed casting Ravi Teja for the movie.”

Ravi Teja played cop roles earlier. But the Telangana accent brought uniqueness to the character.

“I wanted the character looks different from previous cop roles played by Ravi Teja. The Telangana dialect and then strong characterization made it look dissimilar from Ravi Teja’s previous cop roles.”
