With just a few hours left for the conduct of elections to Movie Artistes Association (MAA), a new demand has come up for the establishment of a separate chapter for MAA in Andhra Pradesh.
Representatives of AP Youth and Students Federation on Saturday addressed a press conference in Hyderabad and demanded that all the film actors from Andhra Pradesh should strive for the establishment of a MAA chapter in Andhra Pradesh.
The federation leaders pointed out that most of the film personalities were from Andhra Pradesh and the film industry gets most of its revenue from this state. Yet, it is unfortunate that the industry is still operating from Telangana.
“It has been more than seven years since the combined Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated. Yet there is no activity with regard to film industry in AP. There is no film city in the state and there are no studios here,” the leaders said.
They said if MAA has an independent chapter in Andhra Pradesh, it would help development of the film industry in the state.
“We shall lay siege to the residences of the film stars, producers and directors, if they do not try for the establishment of the MAA branch in AP,” they threatened.
They also asked actor and Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan to take the initiative in shifting the Telugu film industry from Telangana to Andhra Pradesh.
They announced that an action plan would be chalked out at the state-level executive committee meeting at Sri Venkateshwara University in Tirupati on November 1.
