In a strange decision, the Andhra Pradesh high court on Wednesday issued orders allowing a maximum of three liquor bottles to be legally brought from other states into Andhra Pradesh.
The high court gave this order on a petition questioning the alleged harassment by the Andhra police on the charge of smuggling liquor from Telangana.
The petitioner pointed out that as per GO No. 411, there is a provision for bringing a limited quantity of liquor from neighbouring states. “But the AP police are harassing people and filing cases for bringing liquor from Telangana,” the petitioner said.
The high court agreed with the contention of the petitioner and ordered that the government allow people to bring a maximum of three full bottles of liquor each. No case should be filed against such people, it said.
There is no clarity as to whether a person is allowed to bring three bottles at a time or in a single day or per week. Can any person from Andhra Pradesh enter Telangana any number of times in a day and come back bringing three bottles every time he returns?
It will also give scope for hundreds of people crossing the border and bring three bottles of liquor each. It would result in thousands of bottles being brought into Andhra from Telangana every day!
