HC warns of Sarada Peetham guest house in Tirumala

The Andhra Pradesh high court on Wednesday took serious note of the unauthorised construction of guest house of Sarada Peetham of Visakhapatnam belonging to Swamy Swaroopanandendra Saraswati.

A division bench of the high court headed by chief justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur, who was hearing the arguments over a public interest litigation petition filed by an advocate Tummala Omkar, warned that unauthorized constructions cannot be tolerated.

The court said it would issue orders for demolish of the Sarada Peetham’s guest house under construction in Tirumala.

The Chief Justice’s bench questioned how constructions in violation of the plan were undertaken in Tirumala. He said this case should serve as an example of the consequences of unauthorized building.

Tummala Omkar, who is also president of the Tirumala Kshetralu Rakshana Samiti, alleged that the Sharada Peetham building in Tirumala was an illegal construction and that TTD (Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams) had failed to act.

Previously, the High Court had ordered the suspension of construction works. During the latest hearing, the petitioner’s lawyer mentioned that the TTD board had passed a resolution to seize the building.

The court questioned how constructions violating building plans were being carried out and reiterated that demolition orders would be issued for structures violating norms.

The Sharada Peetham’s lawyer requested time to file a counter, and the court adjourned the next hearing accordingly.
