The second wave of coronavirus cases has altered all plans of the grand theatrical release of the upcoming movies.
Some of the summer releases have pushed to a later date, and others have initiated negotiations with OTT companies for direct digital release.
However, streaming giants are not showing interest to offer big money to small and medium-range movies.
OTT companies are offering stunning prices to films that have ‘brand value’ and ‘star appeal’. One such project is “Drushyam 2”, Venkatesh and Meena starrer.
It must be remembered that Mohanlal starrer “Drishyam 2” was a roaring success when it premiered on Amazon Prime skipping the theatrical window.
Now, the same director Jeethu Joseph is remaking it with Venkatesh in Telugu and he has already shot Venkatesh’s portion. The film will be completed its entire shoot in a couple of weeks.
Apparently, Amazon Prime is said to have offered a huge amount to bag the film’s direct-digital rights as well. Since it has a brand value, the streaming company believes, it will attract the pan-Indian audience as well.
Venkatesh and producer Suresh Babu have not yet decided about the direct-OTT release. First, they have to release “Naarappa” in the theaters before deciding on “Drushyam 2”.
Insiders say "Drushyam 2" will mostly go for digital release instead of theatrical experience.
