Empuraan's 'Anti-Hindu' Controversy: Writer's Stand

Empuraan's 'Anti-Hindu' Controversy: Writer's Stand

The much-awaited sequel L2 Empuraan, starring Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran, opened to a massive response at the box office.

However, the film has sparked controversy, with right-wing groups calling it anti-Hindu, while left-wing and Congress factions have praised its content.

The controversy revolves around scenes referencing the 2002 Gujarat riots, allegedly depicting a Hindu man committing violent acts against Muslims.

This has led to a heated debate on social media, though writer Murali Gopy has chosen to remain silent, stating that people can interpret the film as they wish.

Despite the backlash, L2 Empuraan has performed well, earning Rs 32.75 crore in two days and crossing Rs 100 crore globally.

While the film has excelled in Malayalam, it has struggled to make an impact in other languages. Neither Mohanlal nor Prithviraj has commented on the controversy yet.
