Kalvakuntla Himanshu Rao, the grandson of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and son of IT Minister K T Rama Rao, inaugurated a renovated government school building in Serilingampally, Hyderabad, on Wednesday, along with Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy.
Himanshu mobilized nearly Rs 1 crore under the Community Action Service (CAS) initiative of Oakridge International School, Khajaguda, from which he recently completed Class XII, to renovate the government building. The funds he raised also included those collected under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
While the renovation efforts are commendable, the comments made by Himanshu during his speech after the inauguration have sparked a heated debate in political circles.
Himanshu highlighted the poor infrastructure facilities that existed in the government school.
He stated, "While going to my Oakridge school, I noticed this government school. The road leading to the school was in a pathetic condition. When I first visited the school, I was shocked to see its deplorable condition. There were no toilets for girl students, and the principal had to use a store room as his office. Tears welled up in my eyes as I witnessed the plight of the underprivileged students. That's when I made a firm decision to improve the situation in this school by providing better infrastructure facilities. Today, I am happy that I have successfully completed this task."
Himanshu's comments have triggered a debate, with some claiming that he has exposed the alleged misrule of the BRS government led by his grandfather CM KCR, in which his father KTR is a cabinet minister.
It is noteworthy that the BRS government has been in power in Telangana for over nine years, and Himanshu's comments seem to indicate that the government has failed to provide adequate facilities even in a government school located in Serilingampally, Hyderabad, which is near the IT Corridor.
Questions are now being raised about the conditions in government schools located in remote and agency areas.
