The Telugu-language mythological superhero film HanuMan has surpassed Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram in daily collections.
Despite opening to only a fifth of Guntur Kaaram's first-day earnings, HanuMan has gained momentum with positive word-of-mouth, showcasing the film's strength despite a smaller budget, no major stars, and a young director.
On its fifth day of release, HanuMan garnered Rs 12.75 crore, as reported by industry tracker Sacnilk. While it initially opened at Rs 8 crore, the film exhibited improved collections over the weekend.
On day four (Monday), it secured Rs 15 crore, a slight 5% decline from Sunday's Rs 16 crore collections. HanuMan's cumulative domestic earnings now reach Rs 68 crore, indicating a potential to cross the Rs 100 crore mark domestically by Friday or Saturday.
Directed by Prashanth Varma and featuring Teja Sajja, HanuMan achieved a 68% occupancy on day five for the Telugu version. Evening and night shows were particularly popular, with a 70% occupancy. In Hyderabad and Vijayawada, shows ran at over 90% occupancy. However, the film's Hindi version experienced only a 12% occupancy on day five, suggesting that it is yet to make a significant crossover.
On the other hand, Guntur Kaaram reportedly earned Rs 11 crore in India on day five, bringing its domestic collections to Rs 94 crore.
Globally, HanuMan has surpassed the Rs 100 crore mark, according to trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan. Factoring in Tuesday’s domestic collections, the film’s total likely exceeds Rs 112 crore. HanuMan made $3.3 million from just 430 screens at the US box office, prompting its domestic distributor to increase its screen count, as reported by Variety.
A sequel, titled Jai Hanuman, is reportedly scheduled for release in 2025.
