Cops ignore security cover to Jagan at Guntur

The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has accused the Andhra Pradesh police of failing to provide adequate security to its president and former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy during his visit to the Guntur Mirchi Yard on Wednesday.

Jagan, accompanied by a large convoy of vehicles, arrived at the Mirchi Yard to interact with chilli farmers struggling due to the lack of fair prices in recent days.

However, police officials informed him that he did not have permission to visit the Mirchi Yard, citing the Election Commission’s Model Code of Conduct, which is in force due to the ongoing MLC elections under the graduates' quota.

Despite this, Jagan proceeded with his visit and demanded security as per protocol, but the police expressed their inability to provide it, citing election restrictions.

YSRCP spokesman Ambati Rambabu condemned the move, calling it a deliberate conspiracy to create security issues for Jagan.

"The government is trying to suppress farmers' voices by creating security concerns," he stated.

Ambati further alleged that denying security was a planned attempt to create problems for Jagan.

"First of all, Jagan is not addressing a public meeting—he is only speaking to farmers about their problems. Secondly, the YSRCP is contesting local body elections, so there is no violation of the Model Code of Conduct," he argued.

Slamming the government's "anarchic behavior," the YSRCP leader claimed that since coming to power, the coalition government has been intentionally reducing Jagan’s security.

"They provided worn-out bulletproof vehicles, reduced his security cover without a proper review, and have shown the same negligence during his district visits," he said.
