If ongoing negotiations for dubbing rights go through, Tamil superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming action drama Coolie could set a new benchmark in the Telugu film market, with the rights expected to fetch over ₹40 crore — the highest ever for a dubbed Tamil film.
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and produced by Sun Pictures, Coolie is slated for release on August 14. The buzz surrounding the film has already stirred intense competition among Telugu distributors.
What’s driving this frenzy is the film’s multi-industry ensemble cast. Apart from Rajinikanth in the lead, Coolie features Telugu superstar Nagarjuna, Kannada legend Upendra, Malayalam actor Soubin Shahir, and a surprise cameo by Bollywood icon Aamir Khan.
This anticipated deal continues the upward trend of Tamil films commanding big numbers in Telugu. For context, Suriya’s Kanguva fetched ₹25 crore, Vijay’s Leo was sold for ₹20 crore, and Jailer secured ₹17 crore for its Telugu rights.
If the deal is finalized at the quoted price, Coolie will rewrite the market dynamics for South Indian dubbed films — cementing its place as one of the most eagerly awaited releases of 2024.
