The year 2022 proved to be the worst for Bollywood. The industry has yet to fully recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
All of Bollywood's top stars are struggling to get decent openings, whereas South Indian stars are making money even in North India.
"Cirkus" is the most recent Hindi biggie to fail at the box office.
The film, which was released last Friday, only made Rs 20.75 crore net in three days in India. This is a disgraceful number for a film starring Ranveer Singh, one of India's biggest stars.
Flops have become common in Bollywood recently, but the failure of "Cirkus" shocked the industry because the film was directed by Rohith Shetty.
The director is often referred to as a hit-machine, and he has directed more blockbusters in recent years than any other filmmaker in Bollywood.
The film's poor reception in the United States is also shocking. While Ravi Teja's "Dhamaka" made $188k in its opening weekend, "Cirkus" only made $180k.
This indicates that the film was rejected everywhere.
"Cirkus" also surprised Pooja Hegde, who played the film's female lead. She had three flops in the South, and this Bollywood film is her fourth flop in a row in 2022.
All in all, it is a jolt to RRP - Rohith Shetty, Ranveer Singh and Pooja Hegde.
