With the globalization, usage of foreign-made items or global brands has become a trend.
We can't find fault with the trend because every family has at least a relative staying in abroad. But using foreign-made items, especially China made items became a big issue now. The escalating tensions at the Indo-China border lead to this situation.
In a globalized world, knowingly or unknowingly everybody uses foreign-made products and apps. There is nothing to find fault. But many people are criticizing the people who are using Chinese products now because of the recent developments.
A few celebrities started batting for locally made items instead of China-made products now. #BoycottChina #VocalForLocal are trending on social media.
Netizens are also uninstalling Chinese apps like TikTok to teach a lesson to China. They are also demanding celebrities to do the same.
Some of them are going to the extent of criticizing celebrities for earning income through TikTok earlier. It is not right to criticize them for their past actions as India used to have cordial relations with China then.
Campaigning for local products is a very good idea. But we have to wait and see how many celebrities will come forward to uninstall Chinese apps like TikTok. This will not just stop with TikTok.
Many celebs use the latest model iPhone because its a status symbol. It is an American company but the mobiles are made in China. These products will land many people in a complex situation.
Can celebs really follow this Swadesi mantra? Only time will tell.
