On Christmas Day, Mohanlal unveiled his ambitious directorial debut, Barroz, a Malayalam fantasy film expected to create a significant impact at the box office.
However, the film failed to gain traction, starting on a lackluster note and struggling to cross the ₹10 crore mark overall.
Given its substantial production cost, reportedly around ₹80 crores, Barroz is on course to becoming a major box office disappointment.
Released on December 25, the film received mixed reviews from critics.
While Mohanlal’s performance and the visual grandeur were widely appreciated, the narrative and other key elements faced sharp criticism.
Among audiences, enthusiasm for the film remained notably subdued, reflecting in its underwhelming box office performance.
On its opening day, Barroz managed to collect just ₹3.40 crore across all languages. Post-Christmas, the film’s earnings plummeted further, with ₹1.60 crore on day 2 and ₹1.11 crore on day 3. This brought its total to a disappointing ₹6.11 crore net at the Indian box office.
Despite its grand ambitions and veteran star power, Barroz is shaping up to be a financial setback for Mohanlal’s directorial debut.
