Senior Tollywood actor and TDP legislator from Hindupur assembly constituency in Anantapur district Nandamuri Balakrishna might appear a maverick person, but he has inherited certain wonderful qualities from his father – legendary actor and former chief minister of combined Andhra Pradesh N T Rama Rao.
One such quality is his eloquence in delivering Sanskrit slokas and even Vedic hymns.
On Monday, Balakrishna who could not visit his native constituency for over five months due to Corona pandemic finally arrived in Hindupur to a tumultuous welcome by the party leaders and cadre.
He apologised to the people for not visiting Hindupur for a long time due to Covid-19.
He said doctors might say there was no cure for Coronavirus, but in our Vedas, there is a mantra that could prevent the spread of the virus.
He read out the mantra: “Asmin Parathman Nanu Padakalpe, Twamittha Mutthapitha Padma Yoni: Ananta Bhooma Mama Roga Raasim, Nirundi Vaathalaya Vasa Vishno!”
“Everybody should read out this mantra 108 times and they will not contract Coronavirus,” Balakrishna said much to the cheers of his party workers.
The senior actor spent Rs 55 lakh from his personal resources and bought medical equipment and medicines to Covid-19 hospital in Hindupur. This is apart from Rs 50 lakh each he had donated to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
He also donated Rs 25 lakh to the CCC-Manakosam fund set up by the Telugu film industry.
