August BO Report: Big Shocks And Small Successes

Around 37 movies were released in August. As usual, the results were disappointing.

"Double iSmart" and "Mr. Bachchan," which came with high expectations, turned out to be disasters. Meanwhile, two small films that came without any expectations became successful. Overall, August saw fewer successes.

Eight films were released simultaneously in the first week, including Raj Tarun's "Tiragabadarasamy," director Vijay Bhaskar's son Usha Parinayam, Varun Sandesh's "Viraji," Ashwin's "Shivam Bhaje," and Allu Sirish's "Buddy."

Despite heavy promotion, these films failed to attract audiences and ended up as flops. For "Buddy," starring Allu Sirish, even reducing ticket prices did not help.

In the second week, 10 films were released simultaneously, including "Simmba," "Sangharshan," "Committee Boys," "Tufan," and "Bhavanam." Among these, "Committee Kurrolu," produced by Niharika, was a hit.

Niharika used all her contacts for this movie, and the promotion paid off. "Committee Kurrolu" also managed to break even due to its engaging content. However, Vijay Antony's "Tufan" and other films like "Simmba" were flops.

"Double iSmart" and "Mr. Bachchan," which were released on August 15th, were highly anticipated. "Mr. Bachchan," featuring the Harish Shankar-Ravi Teja combo, and "Double iSmart," a sequel to "iSmart Shankar," had high expectations. However, both films flopped.

Harish Shankar’s "Mr. Bachchan," reworked as a remake, turned out to be one of the biggest disasters of the year. Similarly, "Double iSmart," directed by Puri Jagannadh and starring Ram, failed to meet expectations. The dubbed movie "Tangalan" also flopped in Telugu.

Surprisingly, the movie "Aay," which opened on August 15th, became a hit. Made on a low budget and released with proper promotion, it provided laughter to audiences. Producer Bunny Vasu found success with this film starring Narne Nithin.

The following week saw the release of "Marutinagar Subramanyam," which starred Rao Ramesh. This film was mildly impressive and brought laughter to theaters. However, films like "Yajna" and "Revu," which were released alongside it, flopped.

In the last week of August, "Saripodhaa Sanivaram" was released. Starring Nani, it was the biggest release of the month. The initial reaction to the film was mixed, with some finding it good and others citing issues with its length.

The occupancy decreased on the second day, and rain on the third day further affected its performance. We'll have to wait a couple more days to determine the final result.

Alongside the new releases, re-releases also made an impact in August. Films like Mahesh Babu's "Murari," Chiranjeevi's "Indra," and "Shankar Dada MBBS" returned to theaters.

Whether these re-releases were hits or flops is less important; fans of the respective heroes celebrated their return.

While "Mr. Bachchan" and "Double iSmart," which were expected to be hits in August, flopped, "Committee Boys" and "Aay," which had little expectation, achieved success.
