Arundhati Vs Hanu Man: An Interesting Case Study

Arundhati Vs Hanu Man: An Interesting Case Study

Certain times in history, milestones are repeated, prompting reflection on noteworthy moments. We need to recall how the film "Arundhati" brought joy to its makers despite instilling fear before its release. Shyam Prasad Reddy produced the film under the direction of Kodi Ramakrishna, incurring a substantial cost in those days.

He screened some shows for the top buyers in Tollywood at that time, but none showed any interest in purchasing it.

Despite Reddy's request for them to pay the cost price and take the film, they did not respond. He attempted to release the film in the USA by selling the overseas rights, but no one came forward there as well. Reddy asked for Rs 50 lakh, but no buyer emerged from the USA.

However, once the film was released, it became a blockbuster. The positive talk after the first public screening was overwhelming. Buyers from the USA competed to acquire the film on the second day, and eventually, Shyam Prasad Reddy sold it for Rs 1.2 Cr. Thus the film reelased in USA after it created wonders at the box office in India, and the total collection in the USA exceeded many times of the buyers' investment.

A similar history repeated with "Hanu Man," directed by Prashanth Varma and produced by Niranjan Reddy this year. The makers approached many, but none showed interest in buying.

Dil Raju, who overlooked this film, had invested in three other films, out of which he faced huge losses in almost all. "Hanu Man" made history with a phenomenal gross collection of Rs 250 Cr worldwide, despite featuring a small hero and a relatively unknown director. Had Dil Raju invested only on this film ignoring the rest, he would have made a huge fortune. But who could predict that before?

The point to underline is the judgment of so-called intellectual and shrewd businessmen like Dil Raju. He missed out on both "Arundhati" and "Hanu Man" in his career and embraced several flops. The bottom line is that nobody knows the science of success before it actually manifests. It's only the luck factor that decides the fate of any distributor.

After watching 'Guntur Kaaram' a couple of days before its release, Dil Raju rushed to Mahesh Babu to express his admiration and confidence. Sweets were distributed in anticipation. However, after the reelase the final outcome and critical reviews are known to all. This is not to criticize Dil Raju but to highlight a general phenomenon that occurs to everyone in the industry, showing him as an example.

Everyone experiences failures in this industry. Regrettably, a significant number of individuals tend to attribute their successes to their intelligence while blaming failures on the media or other external factors. It's essential for them to recognize that circumstances are beyond their control and to maintain a humble attitude.
