AP employees agitate for DA arrears, PRC wages

Even as the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government in Andhra Pradesh is struggling to overcome the financial crisis, employees have started bringing pressure on the government to clear their dearness allowance arrears and implementation of wages as per pay revision commission recommendations.

Andhra Pradesh employees joint action committee (JAC) led by APNGOs Association president Bandi Srinivasa Rao and comprising various employees’ and teachers’ associations in the state, held a meeting in Vijayawada on Thursday and resolved to intensify the agitation for a solution for their long-pending demands.

Srinivasa Rao alleged that the government has not been paying salaries to the employees and pensions to the retired staff on time.

“The Pay Revision Commission report has been pending since 39 months and the dearness allowance has not been paid for the employees for several months,” he said.

He pointed out that despite making allocations in the budget, the government has not been releasing funds for payment of salaries to the employees on time.

“The finance department has not been responding to the repeated representations about payment of salaries to employees, including outsourced employees, besides arrears, surrender leave facilities and even provident fund amount to be paid to the retired employees,” Rao said.

The APNGOs association also found fault with the government with regard to implementation of employees’ health scheme.

“Though the employees had contributed crores of rupees as their share, they were not given health cards till date,” the association leaders said.

They also demanded regularisation of contract employees and do away with the contract system altogether. They wanted restoration of old pension system by abolishing the contributory pension scheme (CPS).
