Adipurush makers remove 'Sita' dialogue post backlash

Adipurush makers remove 'Sita' dialogue post backlash

Mayor Balen Shah of Kathmandu Metropolitan City made an announcement on Thursday stating that no Indian film will be screened within the capital territory unless the upcoming film Adipurush, directed by Om Raut, corrects the 'mistake' regarding the birthplace of Sita.

Taking to Facebook, he shared the announcement in Nepali, stating, "Until and unless the claim that 'Janki is the daughter of India' made in the South Indian film 'Adipurush' is rectified to be true not only in Nepal but also in India, no Hindi film will be allowed to be screened in the Kathmandu Metropolitan City. A deadline of 3 days has been given to address this. Hail to Mother Sita."

The Censor Board of Nepal has also decided to withhold permission for Adipurush, based on the Hindu mythological epic Ramayana, for the same reason.

In the trailer of Adipurush, Sita is referred to as the daughter of India. According to the Ramayana, Sita was born in Janakpur, Nepal, and Lord Ram came there to marry her.

However, the censor board has now approved the film after the controversial dialogue claiming Sita as India's daughter was removed. It remains to be seen if the filmmakers have made any other such errors in the entire film.

The film stars Prabhas as Lord Ram, as Sita, and Sunny Singh as Lakshman. Saif Ali Khan will be seen portraying the role of Ravan. Adipurush is scheduled for release on June 16 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
