It is 10 days since Akkineni Annapurna, wife of veteran actor Akkineni Nageshwara Rao and mother of popular hero Nagarjuna, passed away after prolonged illness.
It is no doubt an irreparable loss to the Akkineni family and also a very sad development for the Telugu film industry, as Annapurna was a respectable figure in the industry having produced several hit films under the banner of Annapurna Studios.
However, there was one thing that surprised everybody, though they did not talk about it openly because of the respect the Akkineni family commands in the industry or the general public. There was no media coverage about Annapurna’s last rites; unlike in the case of any other film personality or popular persons, her body was not shown in the media and not a single picture of her mortal remains was published in the media.
There was not even any picture of Nageshwara Rao or other family members mourning her death. Perhaps, the Akkineni family did not want any media coverage to the sad development and the media honestly respected their sentiments.
Even when yesteryears’ hero Sobhan Babu died, his family members did not want any media coverage to his last rites; as Sobhan Babu wanted the people to remember only his handsome face and not the lifeless face with cotton plugs stuffed into his nose.
