Prostitution is illegal in India. But the flesh trade goes on and there are many young girls and women who sell their bodies for money.
When Shweta Basu Prasad was arrested in the city caught in the act, quite a few people were shocked. But those who know of many such cases which happened in the past are simply convinced that despite risking being caught, industry girls do get into prostitution for money.
In most cases, it is a conscious choice as they want money due to family problems or want to lead a good life with easy money.
In the past, Bhuvaneshwari who played vamp roles was caught in a raid in a star hotel. A couple of years back, Jyothi and Saira Banu were caught in Begumpet. Similarly, Mouna Poratam heroine Yamuna was also caught with nine other girls in Bangalore. But it’s not just film actresses, even TV actresses get into the business to earn a quick buck.
With sporadic cases coming into public notice, people do get shocked when channels break the news from time to time. But like all things, people forget the incident and it is ‘back to business’ for many people.
