Sunil’s latest offering Jakkanna was severely panned down by critics for its mediocrity. However timing the release perfectly has worked well for this mass comedy.
The film has collected close to 7.5 crore in its first weekend and has been doing steady business in B and C centers even on weekdays.
Jakkanna theatrical rights were sold for 13 crore and the buyers have already recovered eighty percent of their investment. With no big releases slated for this Friday, Jakkanna would breakeven by its second weekend.
This is a relief for Sunil as his previous film Krishnashtami was a huge dud at the ticket window.
Although Jakkanna has been doing steady business in the Telugu states, its performance outside AP and Telangana was horrific.
Overseas buyer who got the distribution rights of Jakkanna for free couldn’t even recover expenses. It is fourth disaster in a row for Sunil in this territory.
At this juncture, his next film may find it tough to find a buyer even if it was offered for free.
