The latest topic of discussion in Film Nagar is the stealing of jewellery from the sets of Rudrama Devi.
Well, usually, film-makers use high-end costume jewellery for shootings. That would have been quite some loss for the producers. But for Rudrama Devi, the producers and director Gunasekhar decided to use real gold ornaments after figuring out that they could source period jewellery from Chennai.
Of course, one wants authenticity in films. Yet, using real jewellery for shooting has created quite a ripple in the industry.
Instead of sympathizing with the producers, everyone is more concerned about discussing why they had to go for real jewellery when costume jewellery would have been the perfect option.
Many say the makers are trying to show off and garner publicity by crying foul. The police who visited the site say that a theft has taken place and that the unit was not trying to bluff.
It has to be said here that Anushka was looking really beautiful in the jewels and we are told the scenes have come out really well. But since they have been robbed, the whole incident has given loads of publicity to the film already.
In the olden days, film-makers would use crude oil in lieu of blood. During the time of NTR, the film-makers would get artificial jewellery painted with gold colour for best effect in colour films.
So, almost everyone in Film Nagar feels that the makers of Rudrama Devi were trying to show off by using original pieces.
We hope they realize at least now that films are all about weaving dreams and not about showcasing real things.
